It seems to me a crucial issue for Christians to have straight in their hearts, minds, and souls is the creation theory as it is presented in scripture; so I am going to devote the next few days addressing some incorrect presumptions made by those who propose the theory of evolution. I’ll explain why it is so important we not accept any of their unbiblical hypotheses or the incorrect conclusions drawn from them. Today I would like us to address the gap theory as proposed by Thomas Chalmers (1780-1847), a notable Scottish theologian and first moderator of the Free Church of Scotland. He was likely the man most responsible for it. The idea can be traced back to the rather obscure writings of the Dutchman Episcopius (1583-1643), and was first recorded from one of Chalmers' lectures in 1814. Rev. William Buckland, a geologist, did much to popularize the idea. It states that the dinosaurs existed between Gen. 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. It suggests there was a 93 billion year period between those two verses which was when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Actually, the original theory didn’t use the figure of 93 million years because at that time evolutionists believed the dinosaurs roamed the earth only 20 million years ago. The method they used to determine the age of the earth was so accurate it changes every few years. I guess they decided somewhere along the line it had to take more than 20 million years for primordial slime to become man. That should be the first hint they haven’t a clue what they’re doing.
Chalmers apparently believed he needed to weave the theory of evolution into the fabric of the biblical record so the biblical record didn’t appear inaccurate. At that time in world history, their either weren’t any reputable scientists who were also Christians, or they were not willing to take on the growing contingency of scientists who accepted this incredibly unscientific science called the theory of evolution. To put it quite bluntly, there are over six thousand unproven theories one has to take on faith before he can believe the theory of evolution. As one man suggested, “I don’t have enough faith to be an evolutionist.” If we accept the gap theory, we must scrap the doctrine of original sin. It is a violent aggression against the biblical record to suggest one can be an evolutionist Christian. The doctrine of original sin tells us there was no sin in the world until Eve partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 3:1-6). Because there was no sin, there was no death (Gen. 2:17; 3:3). Adam and Eve could have lived forever if they had not disobeyed God. That’s what the tree of life was in the garden for. Eating from it preserved life eternally. That’s also why God removed them immediately and placed a guard at the entrance to the Garden so no one could get back in and eat from the tree of life and live forever in the state of sin (Gen. 3:24). Death was the consequence of sin. Therefore dinosaurs could not have died off before Genesis 3. By the way, just as a side note, the entire earth will be like the Garden of Eden when it is restored (Rev. 22:1-5). The tree of life will also be there.
Finally, more recent archeological discoveries clearly show human footprints right beside those of dinosaurs indicating the dinosaurs were here while early man roamed the earth. In the coming days I am going to argue the dinosaurs never died off and present evidence you might find more than just a little intriguing. I will also present viable arguments about how Noah got two of every “kind” of animal into the Ark, including dinosaurs. Romans 1 tells us there really is no such thing as an atheist (1:18-25). Those who deny the God of Creation do so because they prefer to create their own god. They believe their god or gods allow them to be the masters of their own destinies. Some whom God has effectually called unto Himself are temporarily fooled by the doctrines of these false gods. That’s why it behooves us to have godly arguments paired with the biblical record to quickly dispel any notion their false doctrine is credible. Knowledge enables us to proclaim with accuracy and boldness the good news of God's provision for fallen man's sin in His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
