How’s the battle going in your life? Are you engaging the enemy, or are you cowering behind a bush, hoping he won’t notice you’re there? My best guess, if you don’t study God’s word daily and have a significant prayer life, is that you haven’t won a battle with the enemy (Satan) for some time. Actually, my best guess, if you don’t study God’s word daily and have a significant prayer life, is you spend most of your day doing what you have to do to make it through without any major catastrophe interrupting your overwhelming desire to "just be happy." After all, you murmur to yourself, is that asking too much? Well, actually, it is. I have discovered, after several decades of doing battle with the enemy, one cannot win a single battle without a better than average grasp of His word and a significant prayer life, because His word is filled with the weapons of our warfare; and a significant prayer life prepares us daily for the use of His word effectively while waging those battles. Those who don't study diligently daily and pray without ceasing are such easy targets. I've discovered, by talking to hundreds, maybe thousands of fellow believers, most spend less than fifteen minutes a day in prayer and bible study. If my life is any measure, most of us have two or three good opportunities each day to penetrate the gates of hell by telling someone about Jesus. And we likely fail to do so because we are so focussed on our own needs, we never consider those we come into contact with may well be on their way to hell for all eternity.
About now you may be asking yourself, “Why would I want to read this stuff, when it seems brother Dave is constantly harping at me to get off my proverbial butt and do something for the kingdom of God.” And, that’s an excellent question. The answer is simple. God’s word tells us Jesus saved us to bring glory and honor to God, and so we can get off our proverbial butts and do something of eternal significance for his kingdom. As soldiers of the cross, we can't ever afford to get so caught up in the affairs of daily life that we forget our main objective, to go and make disciples, to study to show ourselves approved unto God, to preach the word, in season and out, to give an account of the hope that is within us, and to go and make disciples; oh yeah, I already mentioned that one . Let’s see, before one can become a disciple, he must hear the gospel. I often wonder how many professing believers, just in our little community, have any idea what the gospel really is. Do you?
I watch way too much news and commentary on the news daily. That I know. But doing so enables me to have a relatively good grasp of just how decadent our country is becoming. I heard a female guest on Hannity last night say she was a Republican in everything but the issue of abortion. And one of his male guests, running for the Senate, stated he thought the issue was important, but not as important as our economy. Let's see, money is more important than killing innocent babies. Hmm, money or human life, which to choose. Gosh, I wonder which one is more important to God. Those two infinitely ignorant, ungodly, and spiritually dead human beings are prime examples why God's judgment is soon coming to America. And, interestingly enough, Hannity, an avowed Catholic, saw nothing wrong with their priorities. Oh yeah, he reminded the Senate hopeful our second priority is national security. Isn't that ironic. The only thing making any nation secure is its love of God. And those who love God don't kill babies.
