Was the Earth Really Created in Six Literal Days?

November 3
I want to get really practical today. There are great multitudes who would argue that it doesn’t matter what we believe about whether or not creation occurred in six literal days or six epochs of time. I must disagree, and when I say must, I mean must. As a precursor to this devotional, I would like to point out that it is those far left liberal theological ideologues who suggest the idea that creation occurred in six periods of time (epochs) rather than the scripturally declared six 24 hour days, are heretics. First of all, allow me to confess that my own dear wife, who just happened to be from the Dutch Reformed Church, one of the most liberal churches of all the liberal churches (Robert Schuler is Dutch Reformed), and I, spent several years debating the issue with me. I’m pleased to announce she finally came to her senses and now realizes it is a direct affront to God to suggest He couldn’t have created the heavens and earth in six literal days. It wasn’t until the proposal of the theory of evolution that anyone professing to be a follower of Christ would dare to suggest otherwise. It was the church’s vain attempt to fit creation into the wild and uncontrolled box of evolution that any sane Christian would have even suggested the six days of creation may have been six eras.

I love the New American Standard translation of the Bible, but on the point of creation its translators immediately expose their evolution bent by translating “the first day” “one day, a second day, a third day, a fourth day, a fifth day, and, a sixth day.” (Gen. 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31) I know it seems trite, unless you are a systematic theological pervert like me, but it really is important. One day sounds like it could have been an era or epoch. The first day (the better translation of the original Hebrew) sounds like a twenty-four period. And what makes it so important that we know the difference and stand by it is that we suggest God is not omnipotent when we suggest there is even the slightest possibility He did not create the heavens and earth in six, twenty-four hour days.

In 1918 the church began its own demise toward mediocrity. As a movement, Christianity began trying to fit itself into the box built by evolutionists who, at that time suggested the earth is actually 20 million years old, not the 6,000 years suggested by the biblical record. And, by the way, they now claim this teriffic scientific method they employ suggests the earth is now 93 billion years old. It has changed countless times since first introduced in 1918. Now that's what I call science.

Please allow me to beat a dead horse until it is completely dead. Evolutionists claim over 6,000 postulates that cannot be proven. They deride Christians, call us disgusting names, insulting us, and suggesting we are insane for rejecting those 6,000 unproveable lies. By claiming to use the “scientific method” they call us ignorant, uninformed zealots without an ounce of proof that what we claim is true. Well, I refer you to Romans 1:18-32 for all the proof you need. I need not defend God’s word, only to proclaim it. Romans 1 tells us all of creation, the heavens, the stars, the sun, the moon, the trees, the rivers, the oceans, the very concept of all those things functioning so perfectly declares the truth of God’s word. If you still refuse to believe, I pray you will enjoy eternity in hell. And that’s God’s word for us today.
